Sandwich Ministry

Laura Reed has been leading our sandwich ministry since March, 2021. This project in partnership with ShowUp showers is part of a Sacramento initiative to feed the unhoused in our community.  Each month Laura reaches out to our congregation seeking sandwich makers. A member or family sign up to make 25 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or 25 salami and cheese sandwiches.  Four volunteers will sign up to make sandwiches each week. This provides a total of 100 sandwiches, 50 peanut butter and jelly and 50 salami and cheese.

Additional volunteers assemble the lunch bags which contain, a fruit juice, a protein bar, a piece of fruit and a napkin. 100 bags are labeled and assembled and ready for distribution on Tuesday mornings. Once sandwiches are placed in the prepared bags, they are taken out to the ShowUp shower team and any person that takes a shower or is hungry can have a sandwich bag.  The sandwiches are dispensed in our parking lot every Tuesday. From 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Any leftover sandwiches are taken to shelters or shower locations to feed those in need.

Since March over 2,600 sandwiches have been made by our congregation. In these uncertain times this ministry is serving our downtown community. Thank you to Laura Reed for her leadership and organization of this project. Thank you to our sandwich makers: The Malotts, Dorothy Klishevich, Carl Thomas, Laura and Steve Reed, Anna Weihman, Bill Skinner, Roberta Mori, Jan Mishler, Bayless and Owen Camp, and Julian Leonard.

Thank you to the lunch bag assembly teams, Doug Treadwell, Jamie Segura, Cinde Dolphin, Kari and Todd Parker, Carl Thomas, and Bill Skinner.

Thank you to those of you that shop for our lunch items. This sandwich factory keeps churning out this ministry and it is because of your kindness and support that we can contribute in this fashion to our in- need community. Thank you for your support and service.
