Art Walk

May 2019 Second Saturday ArtWalk at FUMC: feature presentation included Palestinian art.

Over the last several years, one of our ministries at FUMC has been to create a safe place for artists, whether seasoned or new, to share their work, network and find a community where they are welcomed and loved. We call it “Second Saturday Art Walk”.

It was a free once-a-month event for the public and artists from 4:30 to 9 pm on the second Saturday of each month between March and November. The event coincides with the Midtown Art Association open studio nights.

In 2019, we had anywhere from 15 to 20 artists participate—including well-known artists who have their own studios to first timers just starting out in their artistic endeavors. Each night averaged more than 300 attendees walking in and taking a peek or purchasing a favorite piece.

We offered free tables for artists to set out their work, complimentary refreshments for the attendees and lots of encouragement.

In 2020, we wanted to host more tables and add a docent to give tours of our church with a historical script—but, we were interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic!

So, here is a special page to help restart and rebuild that ministry to support the Arts in our community and church. Submit art to
