On December 19th FUMC had our second Coat Drive. Todd Parker, Kari Gaul and Bill Skinner held up signs on J street and collected over 70 coats! Between the two drives in November and December over 200 coats were collected!
Thank you to the members of the church and to our community that donated new and slightly used warm winter coats. The coats are sorted and are then distributed to our unhoused guests. On December 20th our Community Meal Volunteer braved the cold to hand out coats, Christmas gifts and warm burritos, coffee and baked goods. It was 37 degrees and foggy. One man came to the breakfast cold and shivering. He received a warm coat, a beautiful scarf and hat made by the Prayer Shawl group and a healthy meal. He sat on the steps of church enjoying the coffee and his meal in comfort. More than 50 coats were given out in December plus a large number given our in November. Remaining coats will be given out during Community Dinner, Community Breakfast and by the Shower Team. It is so heartwarming to see the joy and comfort this gave to our guests.
