Community Meal Update

Interested in Helping?

We close the month of February with yet another expansion to the ministry of serving others. This month with help from Laura and Steve Reed and Anna Weihman we have added the Brown Bag sandwich ministry. Volunteers from FUMC make 100 sandwiches for distribution throughout the community.  Each week Laura recruits 4 volunteers to make 25 sandwiches each. These sandwiches are brought to the church and placed in brown bags with juice, fruit, and a protein bar. In 2021 we have served over 280 meals and 300 sandwiches. In addition, we provide warm soup every Tuesday to those that come to the showers. Congregation members have been bringing in fresh fruit from their trees and baking muffins, cookies, and brownies. This is such a magical blessing to see the congregation support these efforts and even in these challenging times the service and community support expands.

We see more unhoused every week and they are so grateful for the hot meal, a shower and some personal items we have to offer from the Resource Cart. The Resource Cart was started in October 2020, we hand out some of the hats and scarfs made by the Prayer Shawl group, we hand out feminine hygiene kits to young women, guests are offered, toothbrushes, toothpaste, protein bars, socks, masks, and blankets. Kari Gaul one of our volunteers provides a personal shopping experience as guests are provided additional items to help them in cold weather or difficult times.

If you are interested in baking or have fresh fruit, we need items for our March meals. We have lunch on Tuesday March 16th and the Community Breakfast will be served on Sunday March 21st and 28th.  Email Roberta Mori at or call (916) 256-0557.

Stay well and stay connected this has been a challenging year and it will get better.

Bless you all,

Roberta Mori
