Underpinning is a process that is used to repair, and strengthen the existing foundation.
The underpinning of the sanctuary begins with a test pier. First it is necessary to remove or excavate the soil from beneath the existing foundation, which is the work you see happening in the attached pictures.
On Wednesday, the existing crew will be joined by geotechnical engineers who will assess the soil composition and monitor the process as the first pier is put in place.
This is the beginning of the leveling, stabilization, and preservation of our sanctuary!
