The North State Ecumenical Conference (NSEC) is preparing for the 2021 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity by producing a virtual service to be viewed on January 19, 2021. Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño is a Judicatory Leader member of the NSEC and Rev. Mallory Naake serves as the clergy representative member. As part of the organization, the United Methodist Church is an active participant in the planning of the group’s activities including the upcoming observance.
This year the event will feature an Ecumenical Virtual Choir (EVC) singing, “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at the beginning of the service. The NSEC is inviting singers throughout the area and the California-Nevada United Methodist conference to participate.
“We are looking for a large number of Methodist members and friends in this ecumenical project,” stated Allen Johnson, the active lay representative member of NSEC. Johnson is also a member of First United Methodist Church in Sacramento where he sings as a tenor in the choir. Johnson encourages any singers interested to sign up. “This is a major activity that we can all take part in.”
To sign up, interested singers need to submit their email address to email@example.com. Deadline for sign up is November 11, 2020.
The music track for the voices will be provided by Dr. John Hillebrandt, director of music at First UMC in Sacramento. Tracks and music scores will be emailed to participants to listen to and read as they record their performances.
Living Sounds of Sacramento will collect the video clips and produce the final video.
A donation of $15 to $20 is requested per voice to help pay for the technical work. Donations should be made out to North State Ecumenical Conference.
Historically, NSEC has hosted ecumenical study days, special worship services and an ecumenical worship serve with a keynote speaker. Currently, NSEC supports the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity which includes an ecumenical worship service with a keynote speaker.
The purpose for the establishment of the North State Ecumenical Conference (NSEC) is to give a voice to the local denominational Christian churches in their desire to live out the prayer Jesus prayed for his disciples that they would be one. The NSEC is a gathering of judicatory representatives that serves as a forum for on-going discussion on faith and order matters for the purpose of developing and expressing unity in Jesus Christ in witness to the world.
