First United Methodist Church is called to the ministry of reconciliation.  We affirm that all people are created in the image of God. We celebrate our human family’s diversity of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, faith history, economic status, marital status, education, and physical and mental ability.  We welcome all as beloved children of God.

On Sunday, October 13, 2013, Members and Constituents voted to join the Reconciling Ministries Network.  This vote followed 18 months of study through various groups in the church as well as through open forums. The decision to join the Reconciling Ministries Network means many things. But most succinctly, it means that we are seeking to create space at the table for all God’s children regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.

On January 28, 2014, the FUMC Sacramento Leadership Team voted unanimously to approve the following  statement.

We, the Leadership Team, at First United Methodist Church of Sacramento, California declare that no one will be denied the services of our church because of sexual orientation. This includes the use of our
property for same-sex marriages and holy unions. If you would like to be a part of the Reconciling Committee, which seeks to ensure all aspects of FUMC are welcoming to the LGBTQ community, or you have questions, you are urged to contact the leadership at reconciling@firstumcsac.org.

The LGBTQ+ Reconciling and Social Justice team meets every third Sunday of the month at 11:30.
